New slimline BF Contactors 265A, 330A and 400A

Setting the contactor standards:
high performance and space – efficiency.

LOVATO Electric redefines industry standards with the introduction of an exciting new construction size for contactors. These state-of-the-art contactors boast incredible ratings, featuring 265A, 330A, and 400A AC-3 (400V) for motor control applications, and 450A, 500A, and 600A in the AC-1 category. Available in both 3- and 4-pole versions, these groundbreaking contactors are engineered to meet and exceed your every expectation.

Our new construction size sets a remarkable benchmark for compactness, making them the most space-efficient option on the market. The 3-pole contactors are a mere 140mm wide, similar to equivalently rated moulded case circuit breakers (MCCBs), enabling the swift assembly of compact starters.

These innovative contactors feature electronically controlled AC/DC coils, drastically reducing energy consumption and offering a broad nominal voltage range. You’ll experience uninterrupted operation, even in the face of fluctuating supply voltage conditions.

Streamlining assembly

With user convenience in mind, the coil power terminals feature a unique design with four terminals. Two can be wired on the top side of the contactor, and two on the bottom, making connections more comfortable. Plus, both coils and power contacts are readily available as spare parts and are effortlessly replaceable when the need arises.

The low-profile front-mounted auxiliary contacts make wiring a breeze. You can mount up to six contacts on 3-pole contactors and up to eight on 4-pole contactors. In addition, up to 8 contacts can be mounted on the side faces, providing unparalleled flexibility.

To further streamline your panel assembly, a range of accessories is at your disposal, including power terminal protections, isolating phase barriers, terminal enlargement kits, and a connection kit for assembling changeover, reversing, and star delta starters.

Achieve a sleek and compact assembly with our horizontal mechanical interlock that fits seamlessly between two contactors, all without increasing the overall dimensions. For added convenience, this interlock is also available in a vertical version.

Installation has never been easier, thanks to readily accessible fixing holes and an accessory for tightening terminal screws with a single tool. A front-mounted mechanical indicator keeps you informed about the contactor’s status, whether it’s open or closed.

Knowledge base

What is an electrical contactor?

An electric contactor is a device used to control the flow of electricity in an electrical circuit. It is typically used to switch a high-voltage circuit on or off, often in industrial and commercial applications, where the control of electric motors, heating elements, lighting systems, and other electrical loads is required.

A contactor consists of a set of contacts, usually made of conductive materials like copper, that open and close to allow or interrupt the flow of electrical current. It is operated by an electromagnetic coil that, when energised, generates a magnetic field, causing the contacts to close, thereby completing the electrical circuit. When the coil is de-energised, the magnetic field disappears, and the contacts open, interrupting the circuit.

Contactor’s key features and functions include:

  • High current handling: Contactors are designed to handle high current loads, making them suitable for controlling heavy-duty electrical equipment such as large motors and industrial machinery.
  • Remote control: They can be controlled remotely, often through low-voltage control signals, allowing for safe and efficient operation from a distance.
  • Durability: Contactors are built to withstand frequent switching and high current levels without premature wear or failure.
  • Auxiliary contacts: Many contactors come with auxiliary contacts that can be used to monitor the contactor’s state and facilitate the control of other devices or functions in the electrical circuit.
  • Overload protection: Some contactors have built-in overload protection, which can help prevent damage to electrical equipment in the event of excessive current.

Contactors are essential components in various applications, including industrial machinery, HVAC systems, lighting control, elevators, and more. They play a crucial role in providing reliable and safe control of electrical circuits and equipment.
